Lief’s Director of Supply Chain Management, Jeo Montoya, and Purchasing Lead, Jennifer Davis, give a closer look into the supply chain side of the nutrition industry as we approach the mid-year mark of 2021. Although dietary supplement companies felt a boost after the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nutrition industry has also encountered their own set of challenges, including labor and storage shortages, natural disasters, and rising costs for packaging materials.
Texas is one place that recently faced extreme weather conditions, causing power outages and dangerous conditions that resulted in delays in production and distribution of packaging supplies. The “force majeure” clause in manufacturing contracts also contributed to further uncertainty of how contract manufacturers and nutrition brands would fulfill their orders. Jeo and Jen share the supply chain management strategies that have better positioned Lief Labs to be there for its clients as well as raise awareness for future issues in the industry.
