An extract from the root of non-GMO Salacia chinensis, a woody plant, is used in MetaVive™. These extracts have been shown to improve glucose tolerance and regulate kidney carbohydrate metabolism. During the last step of carbohydrate digestion, MetaVive™ naturally inhibits the ability of the intestinal enzyme α-glucosidase to break down disaccharides and absorb glucose. In comparison, Starch Blockers will target the alpha-amylase enzyme to inhibit the breakdown of complex carbohydrates like starch, but its effects are limited.
